Apollo’s real estate group has a dedicated team of multi-disciplinary real estate professionals whose investment activities are integrated and coordinated with Apollo’s private equity and credit business segments. We take a broad view of markets and property types in targeting debt and equity investment opportunities, including the acquisition and recapitalization of real estate portfolios, platforms and operating companies and distressed for control situations. As of September 30, 2017, Apollo’s real estate group had assets under management of approximately $13 billion through a combination of investment funds, strategic accounts and Apollo Commercial Real Estate Finance, Inc. (NYSE:ARI), a publicly-traded commercial mortgage real estate investment trust managed by an Apollo affiliate.

Coburn Packard

Mr. Packard joined Apollo in 2010 and is a Partner and oversees the investment activities for the U.S. Real Estate Private Equity Group. Prior to joining Apollo, Mr. Packard led the investment activities of Ridgeline Capital Group, an independent real estate investment management company focused on investments to restructure and recapitalize real estate companies and properties in the United States. Prior to co-founding Ridgeline in 2009, Mr. Packard was a Senior Vice President of Lehman Brothers Real Estate Partners, where he was focused on real estate private equity investing in the Americas. Prior to joining Lehman Brothers Real Estate Partners in 1999, Mr. Packard was a member of Lehman Brothers' Real Estate Investment Banking Group, where he participated in numerous debt, and public and private equity financing and strategic advisory assignments on behalf of public and private real estate companies. Mr. Packard has served on the board of directors of Archstone, Tishman Hotel & Realty, and Great Wolf Resorts. Mr. Packard is a member of the Urban Land Institute, the Pension Real Estate Association and the Real Estate Finance & Investment Center at the McCombs School of Business University of Texas at Austin. Mr. Packard holds a BA in Ethics, Politics and Economics from Yale University.

Senior Partner & Global Head of Real Assets

Joseph Azelby

Mr. Azelby joined Apollo in 2017 and is the Senior Partner and Global Head of Real Assets. Prior to joining Apollo, Mr. Azelby was the CEO of JP Morgan’s Global Real Asset’s Group from 1998 to 2017. From 1986 to 1998, Mr. Azelby had various trading and portfolio management roles in JP Morgan Asset Management’s Fixed Income Group. There, he led the team’s public and private mortgage and asset backed securities investment activities. Prior to his career in finance, Mr. Azelby played linebacker in the National Football League for the Buffalo Bills. Today he is a board member for two charities, CASA NYC, focused on children in foster care, and Getting Out Staying Out, which helps young men in the criminal justice system transition to positive and productive lives. Mr. Azelby received a BA in economics from Harvard College and a MBA in finance from NYU’s Stern School of Business.

Tim Grady

Mr. Grady joined Apollo in 2015 and is a Partner in the Apollo Asia Real Estate Group. Prior to joining Apollo, Mr. Grady was a Managing Director of Venator Real Estate Capital Partners. Prior, he was Head of Merrill Lynch's Asian real estate investing activities. Prior to joining Merrill Lynch in Hong Kong, Mr. Grady was Head of Morgan Stanley Realty in Asia Pacific working in Korea, Japan and Hong Kong. Mr. Grady worked for Lehman Brothers, both in New York and Thailand, where he was responsible for direct investment and management of the bank's distressed real estate investments as well as direct real estate equity investments. He previously worked for AG Arbor Management LLC, Nomura Securities International Inc. and Goldman Sachs & Co. Mr. Grady holds a Master of Science degree from Columbia University in Mechanical Engineering and a Bachelor of Science degree from Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

Caleb Shen

Mr. Shen joined Apollo in 2015 and is a Partner in the Apollo Asia Real Estate Group. Prior to joining Apollo, Mr. Shen was Director of China Investments for Venator Real Estate Capital Partners. Mr. Shen is also the former head of CB Richard Ellis' Investment Properties Division in China. Mr. Shen previously worked as an Executive Director at Asia Pacific Land, where he was charged with overseeing the China real estate market. In this role, he completed over $600 million of acquisitions and dispositions. Mr. Shen was a Vice President of acquisitions for LaSalle Investment Management, focusing on transactions in China, Macau, Thailand and the U.S. for transactions totalling approximately $400 million. He holds an MBA degree from the University of Chicago and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington University in St. Louis.

Scott Weiner

Scott Weiner is a partner and is the head of Apollo’s commercial real estate debt business. Mr. Weiner oversees Apollo’s performing, commercial real estate loan origination, acquisition and asset management activities, which include first mortgage, mezzanine and preferred equity investments and commercial mortgage backed securities (CMBS) across managed accounts and Apollo Commercial Real Estate Finance, Inc. (NYSE:ARI), a publicly traded commercial mortgage real estate investment trust managed by an affiliate of Apollo. Mr. Weiner serves as the Chief Investment Officer of the manager of ARI. Prior to joining Apollo in 2009, Mr. Weiner was a Managing Director at Barclays Capital, where he led the group responsible for large mortgage loans and structured finance transactions. Previously, he was a Senior Vice President at Lehman Brothers in the commercial real estate finance area where he specialized in structured first mortgage, mezzanine and preferred equity investments. Mr. Weiner graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a B.A. in International Studies.

Stuart Rothstein

Mr. Rothstein is a partner and the Chief Operating Officer of Apollo’s global real estate business. Mr. Rothstein is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the group as well as strategic planning and new business development. He also is the CEO, President and a member of the Board of Directors of Apollo Commercial Real Estate Finance, Inc. (NYSE:ARI), a publicly traded real estate investment trust managed by an affiliate of Apollo. Prior to joining Apollo in 2009, Mr. Rothstein was a Co-Managing Partner of Four Corners Properties, a privately held real estate investment company. Previously, he served as a Director of KKR Financial Advisors, LLC, overseeing all investments in commercial real estate and a Director at RBC Capital Markets, responsible for the West Coast Real Estate Investment Banking practice. Prior to RBC, Mr. Rothstein was an EVP/CFO of the Related Capital Company, also serving as CFO for three publicly traded companies – Centerline Capital Corp, American Mortgage Acceptance Company and Aegis Realty. Mr. Rothstein began his career at Spieker Properties, an office REIT subsequently acquired by Equity Office Properties, and held various senior finance positions prior to being named CFO in 1999. Mr. Rothstein graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. in Accounting and received an M.B.A. from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. He is a member of Penn State’s Smeal College of Business Real Estate Advisory Board.

Roger Orf

Mr. Orf is a partner and is head of Apollo’s real estate business in Europe. Mr. Orf oversees all property investments and fund raising activities on behalf of Apollo’s real estate funds throughout Europe. Prior to joining Apollo in 2010, Mr. Orf spent the majority of his career investing in the European real estate markets on behalf of Citigroup, Lone Star, for his own account and at Goldman Sachs. In his last four years at Goldman Sachs, Mr. Orf headed the European Real Estate Department and was a member of the European Investment Banking Operating Committee. Mr. Orf is a Founder of E- Shelter GmbH, a German based data centre business. He is a member of the University Of Chicago Graduate School Of Business Global Advisory Board and the Visiting Committee for the University of Chicago Law School. Mr. Orf holds J.D. and M.B.A. degrees from the University of Chicago, as well as a B.A. in Economics (magna cum laude) and Phi Beta Kappa from Georgetown University.

Jess Lipsey

Mr. Lipsey joined Apollo in 2010 in the Real Estate Private Equity Group and is responsible for sourcing, executing and monitoring investments. Prior to joining Apollo, Jess worked at Lehman Brothers Real Estate Partners from 2006 to 2010, where he was involved in the acquisition and asset management of equity and structured debt investments across the U.S. Prior to that, Jess was an Analyst in the Real Estate Investment Banking Group at Wachovia Securities from 2004 to 2006, where he participated in advisory and financing assignments on behalf of private and public companies. Jess graduated magna cum laude from Washington and Lee University with a BS degree in Business Administration and Accounting. Jess is a member of the Urban Land Institute and the International Council of Shopping Centers.

Jason Eisenberg

Mr. Eisenberg is a partner in Apollo’s real estate equity business in North America. Mr. Eisenberg is primarily responsible for the sourcing, structuring, and execution of U.S. real estate investments. Prior to joining Apollo in 2009, Mr. Eisenberg was a Vice President at Lehman Brothers Real Estate Partners where he participated in the acquisition and financing of numerous single property investments, as well as several corporate and portfolio transactions on behalf of the firm’s real estate opportunity funds. Previously, Mr. Eisenberg was an Associate in the Private Equity group of J.P. Morgan Partners and he began his career in the Financial Institutions Investment Banking group at Merrill Lynch. Mr. Eisenberg holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA in Economics and Psychology from Duke University.

Nipun Sahni

Mr. Nipun Sahni joined Apollo in 2015 in AGRE Delhi and is responsible for Real Estate Investments in India. Prior to that time, Nipun was the Founder of Rezone Investment Advisors from March 2011 to April 2015. Prior to that, Mr. Sahni was a Managing Director in the Real Estate Investment Group at Merrill Lynch from 2006 to 2010. Prior to that Mr. Sahni was a Managing Director at GE Capital, India. Mr. Sahni currently serves on the advisory boards of Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors in India. Mr. Sahni previously served on the APREA, USIBC Committee. Mr. Sahni graduated in Commerce from Delhi University with a B.Com. degree and received his Masters degree in Finance from the MFC Program at University of Delhi.

Phillip Mintz

Mr. Mintz is a Partner and leads Apollo’s real estate investing effort in Asia. Mr. Mintz joined Apollo in 2015, following Apollo’s acquisition of Venator Real Estate Capital Partners, the firm which Mr. Mintz founded in 2013 and the manager of the $1 billion Trophy Property Development Fund (“TPD”). Beginning in 2012, Mr. Mintz served as Chief Investment Officer of Winnington Capital in Hong Kong, the prior manager of TPD. Previously, he was the Chief Investment Officer of Asia Pacific Land, a Tokyo based real estate investment manager with offices in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Taipei. Mr. Mintz was previously a Partner at Warburg Pincus, where he initiated the Asian real estate investing efforts and deployed over $800 million in equity. He was also the Chief Executive Officer of General Electric Real Estate Asia, where he led a team of 300 employees throughout the region and managed in excess of $4 billion in assets. Prior to GE, Mr. Mintz was a Director in Mergers and Acquisitions at Merrill Lynch in New York where he focused on real estate transactions and an Associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. Mr. Mintz graduated with an M.B.A from New York University, a J.D. from Fordham University and a B.A. in Political Science from Duke University.
