Evan Kirsh joined Starlight in January 2013 as the President of Starlight U.S. Multi-Family Core Fund. Evan has more than 23 years of real estate experience with the last 13 years of his career dedicated exclusively to the residential housing industry. Mr. Kirsh’s experience includes executive positions with Revera Inc., GWL Realty Advisors and MetCap Living Inc. as well as positions with Brazos Advisors, Citibank Canada and Manulife Real Estate (the global real estate arm of Manulife Financial Corporation). During his tenure with these companies, Evan was involved in the asset management and operation of more than $6 billion of residential real estate assets as well as the acquisition or disposition of approximately 14,000 multi-residential units valued at more than $1.1 billion. Mr. Kirsh holds a Bachelor of Arts in Honours Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Western Ontario.
Daniel Drimmer is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Starlight Investments Ltd. In addition to founding TransGlobe Investment Management Ltd., TransGlobe Property Management Services Ltd. and TransGlobe Apartment Real Estate Investment Trust, where he served as President and Chairman until August 2011, Daniel founded True North Apartment Real Estate Investment Trust (TN.UN) and True North Commercial Real Estate Investment Trust (TNT.UN) in 2012, and Starlight U.S. Multi-Family Core Fund in 2013. Under Mr. Drimmer’s guidance, TransGlobe expanded its original portfolio of seven properties to a portfolio exceeding 30,000 residential suites and approximately one million square feet of gross leasable commercial space. Over the last five years, Daniel has been involved with more than $9 billion worth of acquisition and financing transactions in residential and commercial real estate. Daniel obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Western Ontario, and both a Master in Business Administration and a Masters’ degree in Contemporary European Policy Making from European University in Geneva, Switzerland. He is the third generation in the Drimmer family to be actively involved in investing in commercial real estate.
Tamara Lawson joined Starlight in June 2012. Prior to joining the Starlight, Tamara served as the Chief Financial Officer and Corporate Secretary of InnVest Real Estate Investment Trust, and the Chief Financial Officer of the Westmont Hospitality Group, a privately held hospitality organization. Ms. Lawson has more than 25 years of financial management, acquisitions, corporate governance, investor relations and capital markets experience. Prior to joining Westmont in 2001, Ms. Lawson held senior executive positions at several major Canadian public companies, including as Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Secretary of Chapters Inc. and Treasurer of Sears Canada Inc. Tamara holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the Schulich School of Business and is a Chartered Accountant. Ms. Lawson sits on the Board and Audit and Governance Committees of American Hotel Income Properties and the Ontario Advisory Board of the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
David Chalmers joined Starlight in September 2011 and leads the asset management, investments and capital expenditures groups. He has 15 years of experience managing real estate investments for private, public and pension fund stakeholders in all asset classes including residential and commercial. His expertise includes both purchase and disposition activities, completing over $5 billion in transactions including large portfolios and individual assets. Previously, he held positions in property and asset management with TransGlobe Investment Management and Redcliff Realty Advisors Inc. (now Triovest Realty Advisors Inc.). David holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Guelph with a major in Real Estate Management.
David Hanick joined Starlight Investments Ltd. in November 2012. Prior to joining Starlight, Mr. Hanick was a corporate partner in the Toronto office of Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP where he focused on public and private mergers and acquisitions as well as capital markets transactions acting for issuers, underwriters and private equity firms in various sectors including the real estate sector. Mr. Hanick has more than 12 years of legal, capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate governance expertise, and has participated in transactions totaling more than $20 billion. David is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and holds a joint Masters of Business Administration from the Schulich School of Business and Bachelor of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School.
