Impact: Great Leadership Changes Everything, by Tim Irwin

Category: Leadership, Business

Ideas I found interesting:

Self-regulation frees us from the tyranny of our impulses.

We judge ourselves by our intentions, while others judge us by our behavior.

People’s behavior is a poor predictor of their intent.

Open-mindedness:

Use pre-mortem – feel and analyze your future behavior before the event to be prepared with reaction;

Ask open questions – not Why are you here but What brings you here. What and How instead of Why and Do;

NATO – not attached to outcome. Come with empty cup, do not be attached to the outcome;

Embrace I don’t know;

If you can’t agree, acknowledge;

People who are powerful become more likable if they show weakness;

You shape the narrative so own your story;

Conversation about potential: acknowledge strengths, show people what they are capable of, honor success, help people see what’s possible for them;

Phrases to communicate potential: I see … in you; You are always good at …, I am proud of you for …, I’ve seen how you’ve grown, What would you do if anything was possible?

We rise or fall according to someone’s expectations;

Success is the culmination of many failures;

To see the unexpected, expect nothing.
