Andersen Construction

We are the largest family-owned Negotiated General Contractor in the Portland metro area and we are a strong supporter of the community. With over 1,000 completed projects in the area, our portfolio is diverse and has evolved with the ever-changing market. We introduced tilt-up panels to Portland in the 1950s and built the majority of the Fred Meyers in Oregon. Since then we have become one of the area's largest builders for healthcare, education, multi-family housing, advanced technology and parking garages. Local iconic projects include the original downtown Hilton Hotel, US Post Office, Kaiser Westside Medical Center, Cosmopolitan Tower and OHSU Knight Cancer Research Building.

CEO

David Andersen

David grew up around construction, working his teen years in the summer for the contracting business his father started in 1950. But, instead of heading for a construction job-site following high school he spent the next five years traveling the Northwest playing bass in a rock ‘n’ roll band. Realizing rock ‘n’ roll stardom wasn’t his calling; he enrolled at Oregon State University in the Construction Engineering Management Program (CEM). After graduating from OSU in 1980, he joined Andersen Construction full time. At that time Andersen was mainly an industrial and retail contractor. After becoming President in 1988, the business expanded into healthcare, high-tech, and multi-family housing markets, and today leads Andersen Construction as its Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board.

Inspired by the possible, he loves the process of construction because it elicits the very best of what a team can do working together. He respects the ability to take an empty site or abandoned building and transform a neighborhood or community, turning someone’s dream into reality in the process.
