Our company was founded in 2003 as the RP Mallery Group, a regionally active commercial real estate firm specializing in deal-by-deal syndication. Privately owned, the RP Mallery Group completed a wide variety of real estate projects including commercial real estate acquisition and disposition, subdivision development, sales-leaseback structuring, debt placement, lease negotiations, loan syndication, and debt servicing.
In 2012, due to successful performance as an investment sponsor, we evolved into Big River Real Estate. Today, we're a private equity real estate fund sponsor and manager with approximately $30 Million in assets under management as of January 2015. The move from managing non-discretionary capital to discretionary capital has not changed our investment philosophy: to pursue niches where our experience and sourcing advantages enable us to deliver above average, risk-adjusted investment returns.
Ryan P. Mallery is the founder and managing principal of Big River Real Estate and has been an integral part of all of the firm’s activities since 2003. Mr. Mallery has been involved in many forms of real property ownership, development, management and financing during his career. He is the Fund Manager for the Big River family of funds and is responsible for investment sourcing, underwriting analysis, investor relations and reporting, asset management and accounting oversight.
Mr. Mallery is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin School of Business (BBA 1999), and is proud to have earned his degree from the UW’s world-renowned Real Estate and Urban Land Economics program. Prior to founding his own firm, Mr. Mallery worked for a real estate development firm in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he was responsible for analytical modeling, due diligence, and project management on developments ranging from $2-$50 Million.
Mr. Mallery enjoys discovering and negotiating real estate opportunities that make sense for him and his clients. He has underwritten and evaluated more than $500 Million of real estate assets in his career. As a young man, Mr. Mallery worked in construction and carpentry, founding a business in this field while in college. This construction background proves helpful today in overseeing capital expense projects. Mr. Mallery is a licensed real estate broker.

Thomas F. (“Tuck”) Mallery has been licensed to practice law in Wisconsin since 1974. He founded the predecessor to Mallery & Zimmerman, S.C. in Wausau, Wisconsin in 1975. Mr. Mallery specializes in creditor rights, loan documents and commercial real estate law. He has the legal mind, knack for negotiations and business savvy necessary to complete transactions and resolve disputes. At present, Tuck is “of counsel” to Mallery & Zimmerman S.C. Tuck is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison (BA-1969) and the University of Wyoming School of Law (JD – 1973). In 1987 Mr. Mallery began accumulating and managing a portfolio of commercial real estate for his family.
Mr. Mallery is principally retired from the practice of law today, but he still works on his own investments, for longtime clients and friends, and for conservation. Mr. Mallery serves as chief legal advisor and trusted partner to Big River Real Estate.
