Charles McKenna

Charles A. McKenna, Jr. is a founding principal in CIP Real Estate. Mr. McKenna has an extensive background in real estate development, capital formation, venture structures and asset management. Mr. McKenna was a founding principal in The French & McKenna Company, developer and manager of more than 1 million of square feet of office space in Southern California, including The Atrium, the award winning, ten story, 420,000 square foot twin retail and office towers joined by soaring 10 story glass atrium located at 19100-19200 Von Karman Avenue in Irvine, California. Previously, Mr. McKenna was a partner in the Orange County office of Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker, an international law firm, where he managed the real estate, corporate and business law practice. Mr. McKenna holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Marquette University, a Master of Arts degree from American University and a Juris Doctor degree from The University of Virginia. As a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy, Mr. McKenna received the Navy Commendation Medal for valor in combat operations in Vietnam and served as a Navy Aide to Presidents Johnson and Nixon at the White House.

Eric Smyth

Eric C. Smyth is a founding principal of CIP Real Estate. Mr. Smyth’s extensive development and acquisition experience includes the construction, renovation, and management of millions of square feet of office, business and industrial properties. Mr. Smyth oversees portfolio operations for the company and, as a member of the investment committee, coordinates the identification of new property acquisitions. Mr. Smyth was the founder and principal of Smyth Asset Management Co., a commercial property management, brokerage, and consulting firm which became the foundation of the property management subsidiary of CIP Real Estate. Previously, Mr. Smyth was with Smyth Bros, Inc. a real estate developer notable for developing significant portions of Newport Center, Newport Beach, California and Lantern Bay a $100 million residential community in Dana Point, California. Mr. Smyth holds a Bachelors in Science degree from the University of Southern California and a California real estate broker’s license.

Robert Strom

Robert Y. Strom is a founding principal of CIP Real Estate. Mr. Strom has an extensive background in real estate development, finance and capital formation. Mr. Strom was previously the founder and President of Mortgage BancFund Corporation, the general partner of The Mortgage BancFund of America, L.P. and The Mortgage BancFund of American II, L.P., both public, SEC-registered, limited partnerships, which funded development and construction loan portfolios totaling in excess of $900 million. Previously, Mr. Strom served as Executive Vice President of Centennial Beneficial Mortgage Company and earlier as Vice President and manager of the Orange County office of Lloyds Bank California (now Bank of the West). Mr. Strom earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and holds California real estate broker’s license.
