Mark was appointed President & CEO in June 2016, where he is responsible for leading CPP Investment Board and its investment activities. Mark joined CPPIB in 2012 as CPPIB’s first President for Asia. In November 2013, he became Head of International where he was responsible for the organization’s international investment activities, managing global advisory relationships and leading the organization internationally. Prior to joining CPPIB, Mark had a 20 year career at Goldman Sachs, where he was most recently Vice Chairman of Asia ex-Japan. Mark has been based in Asia for more than 20 years where, among other roles, he ran the Investment Banking Division of Goldman Sachs in Asia ex-Japan for six years. Mark was a member of Goldman Sachs’ Asia Management Committee and the Firmwide Capital Committee. Mark studied undergraduate and graduate medicine and holds a BA in Physiological Sciences from Oriel College, Oxford University and BM BChir from Downing College, Cambridge University. He qualified as medical doctor in 1990. After practicing medicine in the UK, in 1991 he joined Goldman Sachs in London in European Corporate Finance. Mark is married with two children.
Neil is responsible for leading all the finance and risk functions at CPPIB including corporate and investment finance, treasury, performance and reporting, investment risk, tax, internal audit and investment governance. Prior to CPPIB, Neil spent five years at BHP where he was Vice President, Finance, Minerals Americas, chaired the Finance Leadership Team and led all public statutory reporting. Before that, Neil was a partner with KPMG for 10 years in senior client leadership roles as well as having responsibility for the Regional Assurance practice for Western Canada. Neil is a Chartered Professional Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Saskatchewan.
Ed is responsible for the global Real Assets program which encompasses Real Estate (both equity and debt investments), Infrastructure and Agricultural investments. The department is active in major developed and emerging countries. Ed has been with the CPP Investment Board since 2008, initially heading up the Global Capital Markets group during the financial crisis. He then subsequently headed up the Global Corporate Securities group and then the Global Tactical Asset Allocation team, all within the Public Market Investments department. Prior to joining CPPIB, he was Managing Director and Co-Chief Investment Officer for Fortress Investment Group’s Drawbridge Relative Value Fund where he was responsible for the development and execution of fixed income, currency, stock index and commodity trading strategies. With over 25 years of investment experience, Ed previously held senior positions at Deutsche Bank Canada and TD Securities. Ed holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Theoretical Physics from Queen’s University and a Bachelor of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School.
Alain is responsible for CPPIB’s international investment activities and the overall management of our global advisory relationships. Alain is based in London and is also Head of Europe. Alain has more than 23 years of financial industry experience. Prior to joining CPPIB, he was most recently Managing Director at Goldman Sachs & Co. in their Investment Banking division in New York and London. Alain started his career as a lawyer at Sullivan & Cromwell in New York. Alain holds a Bachelor of Law from Laval University in Quebec City, a Masters in Law (D.E.S.S.) from the Sorbonne in Paris and a Masters in Law from Columbia University. He currently serves on the boards of CPPIB Credit Europe S.a.r.l., CPP Investment Board Europe S.a.r.l. and Right to Play UK.
Shane is responsible for leading CPP Investment Board’s direct private investments program including direct private equity, natural resources, and principal credit investments. He also oversees the portfolio value creation group, responsible for supporting the management and governance of private investments across CPPIB. Shane joined CPPIB from Bridgepoint Capital Limited in London. Prior to Bridgepoint, Shane was a partner and founding member of Hermes Private Equity’s direct investing business until its transition to Bridgepoint in 2009. He had also previously been an Associate Director with Morgan Grenfell Private Equity in London. Shane has a BA in Economics from Dartmouth College and an MBA from INSEAD. He formerly served as a director of Neiman Marcus Group, Livingston International, 99 Cents Only Stores, The Gates Corporation and Air Distribution Technologies.
Michel joined the CPP Investment Board in July 2011 and leads the team responsible for the organization’s overall communications program and global public affairs, including relationships with domestic and foreign governments, media and other diverse stakeholder groups. He oversees CPPIB’s reputation management strategy, positioning its global capabilities to support long term investment and diversification goals, while upholding the mandate and governance structure. A senior communications professional, Michel has 25 years of experience in the areas of public affairs, government relations, corporate communications, social responsibility and branding. Most recently, he was Vice-President, Public and Corporate Affairs at Sun Life Financial where he oversaw the company’s global public affairs, corporate communications and brand management functions. He has also held positions at the Canadian Bankers Association and the Canadian Payments Association. Michel has also recently been on the board of directors of the Canada China Business Council, Canada-India Business Council and the Toronto Financial Services Alliance. He holds a B.A. in Law from Carleton University.
Geoffrey is responsible for overall fund level investment strategy and heads the Total Portfolio Management (TPM) department. TPM is the operational arm of CPPIB’s Investment Planning Committee, with overall management accountability for the oversight and management of the fund’s investment portfolio. Geoffrey joined CPPIB in 2011 with the inception of the Total Portfolio Management department. He has helped shape the growth and evolution of the TPM team and helped to define and execute CPPIB’s Total Portfolio Approach. Before joining CPPIB, Geoffrey held finance roles with Fannie Mae and Capital One Financial, where he managed the global balance sheet. He also ran a consulting practice and was Adjunct Professor at American University’s Kogod School of Business. Geoffrey holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Princeton University and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Virginia.
Mary joined CPPIB in 2015 to lead our global Human Resources team. She is responsible for talent acquisition, organizational development, international mobility, and compensation & benefits. A seasoned executive with over 25 years of Human Resources experience, Mary worked previously as Senior Vice President at Holt, Renfrew & Co. where she was responsible for their Human Resources function. Prior to that she was Senior Vice President, Corporate Human Resources at Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts. She also spent seven years as the Senior Vice President of Human Resources at IMAX Corporation. Mary has an MBA from the University of Toronto and a BA in Administrative and Commercial Studies from the University of Western Ontario.
Patrice joined CPPIB in 2015 and leads our global legal and corporate secretarial functions. She is a seasoned business lawyer and advisor with deep experience in transactions, regulation, corporate governance and providing strategic counsel. Prior to joining CPPIB, Patrice spent over 22 years as a corporate lawyer in private practice at Torys LLP, a highly respected cross-border law firm, advising some of Canada’s largest public, private and government businesses in strategic merger and acquisitions, financing and governance matters. In addition to being a practicing partner, she also served on Torys’ executive management committee for several years. Patrice is a member of the Board of Directors of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada – Ontario and Nunavut Division and a member of the Toronto business Advisory Board of the Salvation Army. Patrice holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Wilfrid Laurier University and a Bachelor of Laws from Queen’s University. She is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada.
With over 30 years of experience in investment management, Eric is responsible for leading the CPP Investment Board’s Public Market Investments department, which invests in publicly-traded assets and related derivatives. Prior to joining CPPIB in June 2011, Eric was the Group Chief Investment Officer, International at Fidelity Management & Research in Boston, Massachusetts. Eric held the roles of Chief Investment Officer at Putnam Investments and Managing Director at Cadence Capital Management. Eric serves on the Board of Directors of the TMX Group and on the board of Soulpepper Theatre Company, and is a past president of the Boston Security Analysts Society. Eric earned a B.A. in Earth Science from Wesleyan University, Middletown, Connecticut and is a Chartered Financial Analyst. Eric is a certified member of the Canadian Institute of Corporate Directors.
Nick is responsible for our operations, technology and planning functions as well as enterprise data services, office services & facilities and enterprise risk management. The global heads of Human Resources and Public Affairs & Communications also report to Nick in his capacity as Chief Operations Officer. Nick has more than 25 years of experience in the financial services industry and prior to joining CPP Investment Board in 2009 was the Senior Vice-President, Audit and Risk Management for BCE Inc. Earlier in his career, he served as President and CEO of Deutsche Bank Canada and has held a variety of senior financial positions at CIBC Wood Gundy and at Citibank Canada. Nick serves on the boards of Teine Energy Ltd and Wilton Re Ltd. He also serves on the board of Trillium Health Partners and was most recently their Treasurer and Chair of the Finance and Audit Committees. Nick holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from Queen’s University and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Tony leads CPP Investment Board’s Treasury Services team within the Finance, Analytics and Risk group. His team provides support for treasury and funding services across the portfolio. Prior to joining Treasury Services, he led a team in Investment Operations that supported derivatives trading within our Public Markets department. Tony has over 20 years of experience in the financial services sector working in the capital markets areas of banks supporting the functions of operations, risk management and valuations. Prior to joining CPPIB in 2010 Tony held roles with major financial institutions in Toronto, London and Sydney including RBC Capital Markets, Société Générale and Commonwealth Bank of Australia. Tony has a Bachelors of Economics degree from Macquarie University (in Australia) and holds the Financial Risk Manager designation.
Lisa Baiton oversees CPPIB’s global public affairs programs. She has over 25 years experience in progressively senior executive leadership roles in both the public and private sectors. Prior to joining CPPIB in 2010, Lisa served as Vice President and Practice Lead, Government Relations for a North American full-service public affairs firm where she provided executive-level counsel to large corporate clients. She has also worked for one of Canada's largest industry associations, the Canadian Bankers Association, and for senior Cabinet Ministers and a Premier within three Canadian governments (Saskatchewan, Federal, and Ontario). Originally from Saskatchewan, Lisa has a BA in Political Science (University of Saskatchewan), and a MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management (Northwestern University) and the Schulich School of Business (York University), with global electives completed at Hong Kong University of Science & Technology. She is a graduate of the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD) Directors Education Program at the Rotman School of Management (University of Toronto). She is an active volunteer, currently serving on the Fields Institute Board, the Canada-China Business Council Board, the C.D. Howe Institute International Economic Policy Council, and the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada Toronto Advisory Group.
Peter is responsible for CPP Investment Board’s real estate investment activities globally. Prior to his current role, Peter led the investment teams for the US and Brazil. Peter is also a member of CPPIB’s Real Estate Investment Committee which has oversight for CPPIB’s global real estate investments. Peter has over 20 years of commercial real estate experience. Prior to joining CPPIB in 2007, Peter worked with several leading real estate companies including Canderel, Brookfield and TrizecHahn. Peter holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McGill University and an MBA from the Ivey School of Business.
Ryan is responsible for delivery of legal services globally; including enterprise and investment legal support across the organization through both internal and external counsel. Before joining CPPIB, Ryan was general counsel of Turtle Creek Asset Management, a North American equity hedge fund business. He is also a prior managing director and head of multi-manager funds with The Carlyle Group, through its subsidiary Diversified Global Asset Management (DGAM), where he led management of global portfolios of hedge funds, credit funds, other private market funds and co-investments for institutional investors. He also previously acted as DGAM’s general counsel, and began his career practicing corporate law at Torys LLP with emphasis on M&A and corporate finance. A member of the Law Society of Ontario, Ryan has Master of Finance and Law degrees from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Arts from Queen’s University.
Alex leads the Internal Audit team, whose role is to deliver a variety of Assurance and Advisory activities to ensure the controls for our key risks are appropriately identified and effectively designed, and are operating efficiently and effectively. Alex previously worked at KPMG, where, as an Audit Partner in the firm’s practice she worked with clients in the technology, media and telecommunications sector and gained valuable expertise in lean methodology and audit quality control. Most recently she was the firm’s national industry leader in the Media and Entertainment practice and was responsible for providing support to teams across the country on business and financial reporting issues affecting the industry. Alex is a Chartered Professional Accountant, CA and holds a B.Comm from McGill University. Alex serves on a number of charitable boards including the Canadian Film Centre and MusiCounts, the music education charity affiliated with the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences and the Junos.
Susan leads the business planning function and oversees the enterprise risk management framework for the CPP Investment Board. Susan brings over 20 years of experience in the pension and investment industry including 14 years at Manulife Financial where she was on the Senior Management Team of the U.S. Retirement business and for the last three years, was in the corporate office as the Vice President, Enterprise Risk Management. Prior to joining Manulife, Susan held pension plan consulting roles at both Towers Perrin and Watson Wyatt (now Towers Watson). Susan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Actuarial Science and Statistics from the University of Toronto, is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries, and Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
Kevin leads the Global Capital Markets Fixed Income team, which manages CPPIB’s Fixed Income portfolio. Prior to joining CPP Investment board in 2017, Kevin spent 25 years working in London, New York and Tokyo for a number of Investment Banks and Hedge Funds. He was a partner and Portfolio Manager at Old Lane and subsequently oversaw a Fund at Finisterre Capital. His focus was managing investments in Emerging Markets and the Global Macro themes. Prior to that he worked at Morgan Stanley and then Merrill Lynch, where he had a variety of roles including running Merrill’s Global Non-Dollar Interest Rate Options business and then Global FX Options and Proprietary Trading. Kevin has a BA, High Honors, from Swarthmore College in Economics, German and History.
Maximilian leads CPPIB Investment Board’s Portfolio Value Creation group, supporting management teams of individual investments to achieve full value potential. Maximilian currently serves on the Boards of Liberty Living and Altamira. Prior to joining CPPIB in 2015, Maximilian spent more than seven years at Permira Advisers LLP, focusing on private equity transactions, and was most recently responsible for the firm’s global capital markets activities. Prior to that, Maximilian was an investment banker for Deutsche Bank and BNP Paribas in London. He is a fully qualified lawyer in Germany and holds a Masters of Law from the LMU Munich.
Prior to joining CPP Investment Board, Delaney spent eight years at Hermes GPE LLP (formerly Hermes Private Equity) as Head of the Americas focused on both private equity fund investment and co-investment. Previously, Delaney was an Associate Director with Almeida Capital in London and prior to this a Research Scientist for GlaxoSmithKline in the UK. Delaney holds a BSc (First Class Honours) in Biochemistry from the University of Leeds.
James is a Managing Director in CPP Investment Board’s Portfolio Value Creation group, supporting management teams of individual investments to achieve full value potential. James currently serves on the Boards of Anglian Water and Solveig. Prior to joining CPPIB in 2012, James was a Managing Director and Investment Committee member at Royal Bank Equity Finance (the private equity arm of RBS) where he spent 10 years focused on private equity and infrastructure transactions. Prior to that, James worked in the private equity team at JP Morgan Capital and was a pension fund manager at Hambros Bank. James holds an MA from the University of Oxford.
Gilles covers Asia-Pacific markets with a focus on North Asia, South-East Asia, and new initiatives. He has led some of CPPIB’s early investments around the region and his priorities include business development, transactions, and investment relationships. Gilles joined CPPIB in 2010 and has over 20 years of experience across several real estate business lines including development, construction management, asset management, private equity and fund management, and has variously been professionally based in Australia, Singapore, UK, Belgium and now Hong Kong. He has extensive experience in establishing and managing cross-border investments and joint ventures in Europe and Asia-Pacific and has previously held investment roles in Lend Lease, MGPA, and Aviva Investors. Gilles holds Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of International Business degrees from the University of Queensland and Griffith University, respectively, and has earned his CPA and CFA designations.
Prior to joining the CPP Investment Board, David was a Senior Vice President at Oaktree Capital Management within its Mezzanine Finance Group in New York. Prior to that, David was a Vice President at JPMorgan within its Principal Investments and Leveraged Finance groups in New York. David holds an MBA from The Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario and a BAH in Economics from Queen’s University.
Kevin joined CPPIB in 2011 and is responsible for leading CPP Investment Board’s Global Capital Markets team and ensuring the efficient management of the balancing portfolio, including credit, volatility and carry exposures, and best execution services for all publicly traded securities. With more than 30 years of financial industry experience, Kevin possesses extensive international trading experience, product knowledge, and investment experience in the global financial markets, including 12 years with Goldman Sachs, & Co. in New York, Tokyo, London and Toronto. Previously, as a Senior Advisor, he provided strategic and operational consulting services to established as well as start-up hedge funds. Additionally, he was Partner and COO of Lucerne Capital Management LLC, a SEC-registered investment advisor with global operations. Kevin holds an MBA in Finance from the University of Michigan and B.A. in Mathematics from Carleton College.
Katie Daniels is CPPIB’s Head of Compliance, located within the legal department. Before joining CPPIB, Katie was a long term member of staff of the Ontario Securities Commission, acting as Deputy Director in both the Corporate Finance and Enforcement branches. In her leadership role, she developed deep expertise in securities law, corporate governance and regulatory issues, along with litigation and risk management. Prior to joining the OSC, she practiced commercial litigation with a large Toronto firm. In addition to her past role at the OSC, Katie was a member of the Board of Directors of the North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA), an umbrella organization representing all state and provincial securities regulators in North America. Katie graduated from the University of Toronto law school in 1992 and earned her Global Professional Masters of Law (GPLLM) from the University of Toronto law school in 2012.
Andrew’s responsibilities include oversight of the Investment Risk and Investment Finance functions as well as providing integration and oversight of work supporting the investment framework. Previously Andrew held Managing Director roles within Private Investments both in business management and infrastructure since joining CPP Investment Board in 2010. Before this, Andrew was CEO of HBOS Canada. In a banking career, focused on international and corporate banking, Andrew covered both origination and risk functions. He was head of corporate finance activities in Continental Europe and a board member of HBOS’s European and North American International division which oversaw retail and corporate activities.
Edwin leads the group responsible for the research and portfolio management of CPPIB’s strategic tilting investment activities. He joined CPPIB in October 2013 as a Senior Portfolio Manager in GTAA, managing the Tactical Asset Allocation portfolio. Prior to joining CPPIB, Edwin spent 13 years in asset allocation, currency, and risk management as a Portfolio Manager at William Blair & Company, Managing Member at Singer Partners LLC, and Managing Director and Head of Asset Allocation at UBS Global Asset Management. Earlier in his career, Edwin spent seven years working as an Economist at Lehman Brothers, Primark Decision Economics, and Putnam Investments, and he also briefly managed a Commodity Trading Adviser (CTA) and a quantitative equity strategy. Edwin holds a BA in Economics from Cornell University and a Ph.D. in Economics from Northwestern University.
Avik heads up our natural resources group. Prior to joining CPPIB, Avik was President & CEO of Remvest Energy Partners in Houston, USA. Previously, he was a Founder and Chief Financial Officer of Remora Energy, a Private Equity backed energy company. He has been active in the global energy sector since 1999 with roles across industry, private equity and investment banking. He has previously worked with a number of organizations including First Reserve, Deutsche Bank and EnCana Corporation. Avik currently serves on the board of Teine Energy. He also serves on the Board of Directors for Enactus Canada and the Young Professionals in Energy organization. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance from the University of Calgary.
Prior to joining CPP Investment Board, Andrew was Vice-President in the private debt and special opportunities fund at Fortress Investment Group in Toronto. Previously, he was a Vice-President with KPMG Transaction Advisory. Andrew is a Chartered Accountant and a Chartered Business Valuator, and holds a B.Comm. from McGill University.
Kristina leads CPPIB’s Corporate Finance and Tax teams, having had over 20 years of professional accounting, tax and management experience. Prior to joining CPPIB in 2010, Kristina practiced international tax at KPMG where she advised global organizations. Kristina built CPPIB’s global tax team which is responsible for providing oversight and guidance for international tax related strategy, risk management, investment support and compliance. She currently also leads CPPIB’s Corporate Finance teams which are responsible for establishing CPPIB’s accounting policies, the preparation of CPPIB’s consolidated financial statements, ensuring appropriate governance over each of CPPIB’s wholly-owned subsidiaries, vendor payment processing and the reporting and analysis of the total costs of CPPIB. Kristina is a Chartered Professional Accountant, CA and holds a B.Comm from the University of Toronto.
John leads CPPIB’s Principal Credit Investments program. Prior to this role, John was responsible for business management, structuring and operations and supporting portfolio management in Private Investments. John joined CPPIB in 2008 and was a senior member in Principal Credit Investments until 2015. John holds an MBA from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto, a PhD from the University of Western Ontario and is a CFA charterholder.
Guy is primarily responsible for the acquisition of real estate investments for CPP Investment Board in the Greater China region. Guy also led some of CPPIB’s early investments in other countries in Asia Pacific. Guy has over 20 years of experience in real estate. Before joining CPPIB in 2009, he was Vice President and Chief Representative of Citi Property Investors (CPI) China based in Shanghai. In addition to his role in acquisitions, Guy was also actively involved in asset management and responsible for investor relations for CPI’s Asia Fund, which totaled USD 1.3 billion of commitments. Prior to joining CPI, Guy worked in the Corporate Finance department of Citigroup both in Hong Kong and Moscow, and also at Savills plc in China, establishing the company’s presence in Shanghai. Guy holds an MBA from New York University and a MA in Chinese from Oxford University.
Prior to joining CPPIB's Relationship Investments group in 2012, Christian spent 11 years in the private equity and growth capital industry at Charterhouse Group and Planier Capital. Christian began his career in the Investment Banking division of Salomon Brothers in New York City. Christian holds a MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA from the University of Pennsylvania. He currently serves on the board of ORPEA S.A., and previously served on the boards of companies in the Business Services, Healthcare Services, Communications and Education sectors.
Martin heads the Strategy group within the Real Assets department. The Strategy group delivers insight and actionable advice to the Real Asset investment committees and transaction teams on issues impacting long-term investment performance. Martin also serves as a member of CPPIB’s global committees for equity investments into real estate, agriculture and infrastructure, as well as for real estate debt investments. Since joining CPPIB in 2005, Martin has led the development of a number of new investment programs, making CPPIB’s first real estate equity investments into a number of new countries and sectors. He founded the Private Real Estate Debt group in early 2010 and led its growth to over $4 billion in assets, before assuming his current position in 2016. Prior to joining CPPIB, Martin held transactional roles in the real estate investing, commercial lending and investment banking industries, based in the UK, Canada and the United States. He holds a B.A. (Honours) in Marketing from the University of Strathclyde, in Scotland and an M.B.A. with emphasis in Real Estate from the University of California, Berkeley.
Bruce joined CPPIB in 2007 as a Senior Principal in the Infrastructure group, and was most recently Managing Director, Head of Americas for Infrastructure. Prior to joining the CPP Investment Board in October 2007, Bruce led the private markets infrastructure team at OPTrust. Previously, he spent a number of years working with Macquarie Bank in London and Toronto in corporate finance after having worked in investment banking at RBC Dominion Securities. Bruce holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta and Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Toronto.
Jim leads the Portfolio Research group in our Total Portfolio Management (TPM) department. He and his group are responsible for identifying and researching systematic investment factors, and articulating our Total Portfolio’s exposures to these factors. Previously at CPPIB, Jim headed the Portfolio Management group within TPM during which he and his team developed the investment process for and managed the systematic exposures of the Balancing portion of our Total Portfolio. Prior to that, Jim managed the Portfolio Engineering team in PMI-Quant Equities where he was responsible for the daily production of quantitative investment models and related analytics. Before joining CPPIB Jim held various roles managing quantitative portfolios and portfolio management teams at Seekers Advisors HK, Bosera Asset Management Co. in HK & China, and Barclays Global Investors and UBS Brinson Inc. in the US. Jim has a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley and a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from MIT. He is also a CFA charter holder.
Prior to joining CPP Investment Board in 2016, Michael spent 25 years in Investment Banking, including, most recently, as Head of M&A and Corporate Finance for Nomura Securities. While at Nomura, Michael was a member of the Global Investment Banking Executive Committee and the America’s Operating and Capital Commitments Committees. Previously Michael was Global Co-Head of Natural Resources at Deutsche Bank and held various positions at Morgan Stanley where he started his career in 1989. He has worked in New York, London and Toronto. Michael holds an HBA from Ivey Business School and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He is a member of the Ivey Advisory Board.
William leads the CPP Investment Board’s Risk and Investment Systems group within Information Technology. His team provides technology support for Trading, Portfolio Management and Risk Systems. He has over 20 years of financial technology experience providing global technology solutions. Prior to joining CPPIB in 2009 William held roles with major financial institutions in London and New York including Citi Bank, Bank of America and JP Morgan Chase. William has a Bachelors of Science degree from Salford University (in the UK) with joint Honours in Physics and Computing.
Rocky is responsible for leading the Investment Risk function within CPP Investment Board with accountabilities for the measurement, analysis, and oversight of risk across all of the investment portfolios. Rocky has over 18 years of experience in risk management within the banking, insurance and most recently asset management sectors. Prior to joining CPP Investment Board, Rocky worked for S&P Risk Solutions where he was the VP and Head of Analytical Services for the Americas. In this role he assisted financial institutions on the development and implementation of risk assessment frameworks and risk measurement methodologies. As a risk consultant, he drew upon 10 years of credit risk experience at Bank of Montreal where he held progressively senior roles within investment banking, middle market and retail risk groups. Rocky has a MBA from the Schulich School of Business, a Specialized Honours BA in Economics from York University and is a CFA charter holder.
Frank leads the team responsible for delivering alpha through active security selection driven by bottom-up fundamental research. Frank was previously a Senior Portfolio Manager responsible for the team’s Technology, Media, and Telecom investments in public equities globally. Prior to joining CPPIB in 2007, Frank was an Assistant Portfolio Manager within the Global Active Equities group at Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan and an Analyst in the Mergers and Acquisitions department at BMO. Frank holds a Master’s degree in Financial Economics from the University of Toronto, a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Management Science from Ryerson University, and is a CFA Charterholder.
Jennifer is responsible for the team that makes and monitors CPPIB's private equity fund commitments in North American, Latin America and Europe. Prior to joining CPP Investment Board in December 2004, Jennifer worked at MWI & Partners, a Canadian middle market buyout fund, and Merrill Lynch & Co. in investment banking in Toronto and structured finance in London. Jennifer holds a B.Comm. from McGill University.
Neil has 25 years of experience in the infrastructure market, including 15 years as a banker at Lloyds, Barclays and WestLB, followed by a 10 year spell as a founding partner in 3i’s infrastructure business prior to joining CPPIB in 2015.
Derek leads Principal Credit Investments in Europe. Prior to joining CPP Investment Board in 2017, Derek was a Managing Director at Davidson Kempner focused on investing in event-driven, opportunistic and distressed investments across Europe. Prior to that he was an Executive Director at Alcentra, focused on sub-investment grade corporate credit markets across Europe. Derek holds a B.Comm. from the University of British Columbia and is a Chartered Professional Accountant.
Scott leads the team responsible for CPPIB’s active long/short portfolio of investments in public companies. He has almost 20 years of experience in the financial services sector. He joined the CPP Investment Board’s Private Investments department in 2005 as a Senior Principal to start the Infrastructure Investments group, and in 2009 moved to the Public Market Investments department to start the Relationship Investments group. Prior to that, Scott was an investment professional at Onex Corporation and held various positions in both finance and operations at GE Capital Real Estate and GE Plastics. Scott holds a MBA from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from Queen's University, Canada. He currently serves on the boards of TORC Oil & Gas Ltd. and Entertainment One Ltd., and has served on numerous other boards in a variety of industries.
Suyi is responsible for leading our investment activities in Asia and overseeing CPPIB’s portfolio of Asian investments. Suyi joined CPPIB nine years ago, establishing CPPIB’s first international office in Hong Kong and has overseen the private equity business in Asia as Head of Private Equity Asia. Suyi’s private equity investment experience also includes her career at Teacher’s Private Capital, the private equity group at Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan and The Carlyle Group’s Asia Buyout. She also worked at McKinsey & Co. and PricewaterhouseCoopers. She received her MBA from Stanford Business School and a BA from Seoul National University. She is also a Certified Public Accountant.
Julie leads CPPIB's Enterprise Systems group within Information Technology. Her team provides technology support for Corporate Services and production support for all of CPPIB's applications. Julie has over 13 years of experience in the financial sector and more than 20 years in information technology. Prior to joining CPPIB, she was Vice-President IT Delivery, Finances, Risks, Capital Markets and HR at National Bank. She holds an EMBA from McGill-HEC.
Dario leads the Total Rewards team, responsible for the development, governance and administration of compensation, benefits, pension, and mobility programs for CPPIB employees around the world. Prior to joining CPPIB in 2015, Dario was with Sun Life Financial, where he held various roles over six years, including heading total rewards and mobility for Sun Life Asia in Hong Kong, and leading the sales compensation practice in Toronto. He also worked as a compensation consultant with Willis Towers Watson in Philadelphia and Toronto, supporting clients on competitive pay analyses, job leveling, and M&A integration initiatives. Dario holds a Masters of Human Resource Management from York University, and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
James joined CPPIB in April 2011 to head up Fixed Income execution and Fixed Income portfolio management within Global Capital Markets. James was also responsible for the management of CPPIB’s Commercial Paper programs as well as the build out of CPPIB’s multi-currency Term Debt issuance program. In November 2016 James joined the newly formed Cash and Liquidity Group to head up all secured and unsecured financing activity. James has extensive international experience in the Fixed Income Markets, having worked in Tokyo, London, New York and Toronto before joining CPPIB. James is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
Stephanie oversees all of CPPIB’s sustainable investing activities, including direct and collaborative engagements, proxy voting and the integration of environmental, social and governance factors across all of CPPIB’s investment activities. In a prior role at CPPIB from 2002 to 2012, Stephanie was a Senior Principal in the Private Investments department. In that role, Stephanie was instrumental in building CPPIB’s private equity funds portfolio, developing its global private equity funds strategy and participating on numerous fund Advisory Boards. Prior to joining CPPIB in 2002, Stephanie was principal of Ludwick & Leaist Inc., a corporate consulting firm. She also practised corporate/commercial and securities law with McCarthy Tétrault, and earned her Chartered Accountant designation with Coopers & Lybrand. Stephanie holds her Bachelor of Commerce and Law degrees from the University of Toronto.
Alistair is Managing Director and Head of Portfolio Management. Alistair joined CPPIB in October 2008 as a Senior Portfolio Manager in the Global Tactical Asset Allocation (GTAA) group. Prior to joining CPPIB, Alistair spent 10 years at UBS Global Asset Management in London where he was a Portfolio Manager, responsible for both an absolute return macro fund, and for the asset allocation within traditional, long-only, balanced portfolios. Prior to joining UBS, Alistair spent 6 years working as an economist at the Bank of England (the UK’s Central Bank) in the Monetary Analysis and International Divisions. Alistair has a Bachelors degree in Economics from the University of Leicester, a Masters degree from the University of Manchester (both in the UK), and is a CFA charterholder.
Rosemary leads the Human Resources Business Partners and Employee Relations team for CPP Investment Board, an advisory function which plays a central role in the overall development, execution and success of CPPIB’s talent management practices. Prior to this, she led CPPIB’s Talent Acquisition team, which is responsible for recruiting talent for CPPIB offices globally. Rosemary joined CPPIB after eighteen years at McKinsey & Company, where she began as a consultant, then spent over a decade in several global talent management roles including candidate assessment, campus and experienced hire recruiting, talent branding, and consultant leadership development. Rosemary holds an MBA from the Harvard Business School, an MPA from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, and a BA from the Ivey School of Business.
Derek's primary focus is asset-liability management and liquidity management. Derek joined CPPIB in 2004, spending four and a half years in the Private Investments department. He subsequently led the external hedge fund Operational Due Diligence and the Reporting & Analytics groups, and, most recently, Treasury Services. Prior to joining CPPIB, Derek was with Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan in the Investment Finance – Private Capital group. Derek is a CFA Charterholder and obtained his CPA, CA designation with Deloitte in their financial institutions audit practice. He also holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Toronto.
Bill plays a leadership role in the team responsible for delivering alpha through active security selection of public equity investments driven by bottom-up fundamental research. Bill’s responsibilities have included managing the team that focuses on global public equity investments in the Industrial, Energy and Materials sectors. Prior to joining CPP Investment Board in 2010, Bill was a Director and Analyst in the Equity Research group at TD Securities Inc. Previously, he worked at Ernst and Young in the Assurance Services and Corporate Finance groups. Bill is a Chartered Accountant and a CFA Charterholder. Bill holds a MBA from University of Toronto and a BA in Economics from McGill University.
Deborah is responsible for leading private investments in Asia with a focus on both direct private equity investments and fund commitments. Deborah was most recently Managing Director, Head of Relationship Investments International and was responsible for significant minority investments in public companies in Asia and Europe. Deborah joined CPPIB in 2009 and has been located in Hong Kong since 2012. Prior to joining CPPIB, Deborah spent nine years at Goldman Sachs & Co. in New York and Toronto advising management teams and boards on M&A and financing transactions. Previously, Deborah was a securities lawyer at Blake, Cassels & Graydon in Toronto. Deborah serves on the Board of Directors of HKBN Ltd. and previously was a member of the Board of Directors of the Bridgepoint Health Foundation and was the Chair of Vitalhub Corp., a Toronto-based mobile healthcare start-up company. Deborah holds a MBA from The Wharton School and both a LLB and BA from Queen's University, Canada.
Prior to joining CPPIB, Geoff was Managing Director and Head of Private Equity at Vulcan Capital, based in Seattle. He was previously a Partner with Forstmann Little & Co. in New York. Prior to that Geoff worked in M&A for Goldman Sachs in New York and London. Geoff holds an MBA from Wharton and a BA in Economics from the University of Victoria.
Jimmy is responsible for CPP Investment Board’s real estate in Asia. He has over 20 years real estate experience in Asia having worked out of Singapore, South Korea and currently based in Hong Kong. Prior to joining CPPIB in 2008, Jimmy worked with several leading real estate companies including ING Real Estate. He was responsible for setting up ING Real Estate’s business in South Korea. Jimmy holds a First Class Honours in Bachelor of Science (Estate Management) from the National University of Singapore and a Masters in International Management from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.
Basant is responsible for leading the Information Technology group at CPP Investment Board. Basant brings over 20 years of financial technology experience. Prior to joining CPPIB, he was with Bank of America Merrill Lynch as Global Head of Technology for their Prime Brokerage, Securities Lending, Financing and Clearing Businesses. His professional experience also includes 16 years at Goldman Sachs & Co. in a variety of roles in the Technology division. Significant roles at Goldman Sachs include Global Head of Investment Research Technology and Global Head of Prime Brokerage, Fund Administration and Risk Technology. Basant earned a Master of Science degree in engineering from the University of Massachusetts and a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Motilal Nehru Institute of Technology, India.
Kathy leads a team focused on building relevant employee, leadership and organizational capabilities critical to grow a sustainable global investment organization. Within CPP Investment Board, Kathy was previously responsible for leading the Human Resources Business Partner team which supported the Investment Departments (Private Investments, Public Market Investments and Real Estate Investments) as well as Total Portfolio Management. Prior to joining CPPIB in May 2007, Kathy worked with Xstrata (formerly Falconbridge Limited) in various roles including leading Human Resources in their global nickel business and Organizational Development. Kathy holds a Bachelors of Business Administration degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
Andrea is responsible for CPP Investment Board’s European Real Estate Investments. He joined CPPIB’s London office in 2011 as Director, Real Estate Investments for Europe and has been responsible for real estate investments on a pan-European basis and in India. He has more than 15 years experience in real estate investment, holding senior positions at real estate private equity and investment firms. Prior to joining CPPIB, Andrea was European Chief Investment Officer and Director of AREA Property Partners. He holds an MBA from Insead and a BS in International Economics from the School of Foreign Service of Georgetown University.
Karen leads CPPIB’s Investment Finance team, supporting both Private Investments and Real Estate Investments on a global basis. Her team is responsible for providing operational support to the investment groups, financial reporting and analysis, valuations, as well as most recently, governance and management of CPPIB’s non-investment legal entities. Karen has over 20 years experience in leadership roles providing financial, strategic and operational management and advice. Karen spent 12 years at CIBC in both Retail and Wholesale Banking including a role as Vice President Finance, World Markets supporting Private Investments, Investment Banking and Commercial Banking. Karen holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from Memorial University of Newfoundland and is a Chartered Accountant. Karen was awarded a Provincial Gold Medal upon obtaining her CA Designation.
Chris joined Global Capital Markets at CPP Investment Board in 2007 focusing on fixed income programs. Chris currently manages the Credit Group within Global Capital Markets and is responsible for the management of CPP Investment Board’s Global Credit Passive Portfolio. From 2011 to 2016, he was responsible for the active credit and interest rates portfolio in the Short Horizon Alpha team as well as developing cross product strategies spanning equity, foreign exchange, interest rates, credit and volatility. Chris has over 20 years of investment and trading experience in both European and North American markets. Prior to joining CPPIB, he spent over 12 years with TD Securities as part of the Credit Products Group trading vanilla and structured credit primarily out of London. Chris also spent 3 years with Price Waterhouse in Toronto. Chris holds a Bachelors of Commerce from Queen’s University and an MBA from the University of Western Ontario. He also holds the Chartered Professional Accountant and Chartered Financial Analyst designations.
Ryan is responsible for CPP Investment Board’s Direct Private Equity program. He previously led our financial institutions investing initiative and our direct private equity activities in Europe. Prior to joining CPPIB in 2006, Ryan was a Vice-President at Merrill Lynch & Co. in the Financial Institutions Group in the Investment Banking Division in New York. He currently serves on the boards of Antares Capital, Ascot Underwriting, Dorna Sports S.L. and Wilton Re. He was formerly a director of AWAS Aviation Capital. Ryan holds his MBA and law degrees from York University and a BA from the University of Western Ontario.
Chris joined CPP Investment Board in 2008 focusing initially on active management programs. He has been responsible for a number of groups in PMI including Short Horizon Alpha and Global Capital Markets, and is currently heading the Cash and Liquidity Group which oversees fund financing and balance sheet management activities. Chris has over 25 years of investment and trading experience with both domestic and international institutions. Prior to joining CPPIB, he was Managing Director Securitization and Structured Finance at BMO Capital Markets, Co-Head Structured Finance at Scotia Capital, and traded exotic options and derivatives at Citibank. Chris holds a degree in Engineering Physics from McMaster University and an MBA from Queen’s University.
Geoffrey heads the Private Real Estate Debt investing team at CPPIB Credit Investments Inc., a subsidiary of Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB). In addition to his real estate debt responsibilities, Geoffrey also serves as a member of CPPIB’s global investment committees for all real estate equity transactions and all forms of credit investment. Geoffrey joined CPPIB Credit Investments Inc. in 2010 to help develop and implement our current private real estate debt strategy. Since joining he has helped lead CPPIB’s investments in a broad range of real estate debt products including mortgage, mezzanine, and preferred equity loans secured by high quality real estate assets in markets across the Americas and Europe while selectively evaluating expansion into new markets. Prior to joining CPPIB, Geoffrey spent four years at RBS Greenwich Capital and was a board member of RBS’s Global Real Estate Finance Group responsible for its US debt portfolio. Geoffrey started his career at JPMorgan where he held several real estate finance related roles in NY and London departing as head of real estate capital markets. Geoffrey holds a B.A. (Honours) in Urban Development from the University of Western Ontario and a Masters in Real Estate Development from Columbia University.
Paul leads the Infrastructure Systems team within Information Technology, which provides support for all technology infrastructure across CPPIB. He brings over 20 years of financial technology experience, and prior to joining CPPIB held various senior leadership and advisory roles at top hedge funds and large financial firms, including Millennium Partners, Bridgewater & Associates, Credit Suisse, J.P. Morgan, and Goldman Sachs. Paul holds a Master of Science degree from Columbia University, and a BA from Rutgers University.
Rodolfo is responsible for leading the CPP Investment Board in Latin America. Based in São Paulo, Rodolfo covers all aspects of CPPIB’s mandate, including our Latin American advisory relationships, and provides active leadership and coordination of our activities in these markets. Rodolfo has 21 years of consulting with Bain & Company, of which the past 14 years have been in Brazil. Most recently he was Practice Leader, South America Financial Services, at Bain & Company establishing the Financial Services practice and building it into a market leader. Prior experience includes Deutsche Bank Commercial and Corporate Banking in Spain and Germany. Rodolfo holds a Master of Business Administration from The Wharton School in Philadelphia, USA, and a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina.
Hilary Spann is responsible for CPP Investment Board’s real estate investments in the Americas, and is based in New York City. Hilary is also a member of CPPIB’s Real Estate Investment Committee, which has oversight for CPPIB’s global real estate investments. Hilary has 18 years of commercial real estate experience. Prior to joining CPPIB, Hilary held various roles in real estate acquisitions and asset management at JP Morgan Asset Management, and was also a consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers. Hilary attended the Georgia Institute of Technology, where she received an undergraduate degree focused on architecture and master’s degree in urban planning. She is the chair of the Urban Development Mixed Use Council (Red Flight) for ULI, and is an active member of WX – Women Executives in Real Estate, a New York based professional and charitable organization.
Cheryl leads the TPRT team within CPP Investment Board's Finance, Analytics & Risk Group. Her teams are responsible for treasury and funding services across the portfolio, performance measurement and attribution, total fund reporting, internal reporting and analysis. Cheryl has more than 20 years of experience in the financial services sector. Prior to joining CPPIB she held increasingly senior roles at TD Bank Financial Group and at Canada Trust, before its acquisition by TD. Her responsibilities have ranged from funding strategy and treasury accounting functions to oversight of bank-wide liquidity measurement, compliance, monitoring and regulatory and Board reporting. Cheryl is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Toronto.
Rossitsa is responsible for leading portfolio construction as well as the business management function in Private Investments. Rossitsa previously led the asset class research for existing and potential areas of investment in the public and private markets, including hedge funds, private equity, infrastructure, credit and natural resources, as part of CPPIB’s Total Portfolio Management department. Prior to joining CPPIB, Rossitsa was at GE Energy Financial Services in Stamford, Connecticut, where she was responsible for due diligence as well as structuring and negotiating acquisitions in the power sector. Rossitsa also worked in Assurance and Advisory Services at Deloitte & Touche in Chicago. Rossitsa holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and a BBA from Saint Mary’s College, Indiana.
Scott joined CPP Investment Board in 2005. As Managing Director within the External Portfolio Management team Scott plays a leadership role in CPPIB’s manager research and selection process. Prior to joining the External Portfolio Management Team, Scott was a senior member of CPPIB’s Private Investments Team, where he focused on private equity fund investments and private equity secondaries. Prior to joining CPPIB, Scott was a member of the European Corporate Development team at Level 3 Communications. Scott began his career in mergers and acquisitions with BMO Nesbitt Burns. Scott holds a Master in Finance from London Business School and a BBA from Wilfrid Laurier University.
Agus oversees the active fundamental investment team for Asia ex-Japan out of our Hong Kong office. The team focuses on performing fundamental research and investing long term in quality corporates throughout Asia ex-Japan. Prior to joining CPPIB in January 2014, Agus spent five years in Citadel (Asia) as Head of Asia Equity and managed Asia Equities Long Short sector portfolio, three years in Income Partners as Managing Partner and ten years in Fidelity Investments (HK) managing various sectors and country funds. Agus holds a MBA from University of Chicago, Booth Graduate School of Business and Bachelor of Business Administration from University of San Diego. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)
Derek leads the Portfolio Engineering group in our Total Portfolio Management (TPM) department. He and his team support the daily management of the Investment Portfolio and ensure that TPM has the analytical tools, robust infrastructure and data required to support scalable portfolio management and research activities. Prior to joining TPM Derek led the Portfolio Engineering team within PMI’s Global Tactical Asset Allocation group where he was responsible for the daily operations of the portfolio and for the production of quantitative investment models and analytics. Before joining CPPIB, Derek held a variety of positions related to quantitative investing, indexing, technology, and data at Barclays Global Investors and Morgan Stanley Capital International. Derek holds a Master of Science degree in Computing and Information Science from Queen’s University, an MBA from INSEAD and is a CFA charterholder.
Jay leads CPP Investment Board's Quantitative Equities team in the Public Market Investments department. He has more than 25 years of experience in the field of quantitative investments. Prior to joining CPPIB in 2010, Jay was a co-founder and Chief Investment Officer at Vyas Capital Management. Before that, he was a Senior Portfolio Manager and Head of Portfolio Management Process in Barclays Global Investors' Alpha Strategies Group, a portfolio manager at Martingale Asset Management, and he worked at Barra Inc. where he began his career. Jay holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley, and is a CFA Charterholder.
Poul leads the team responsible for selecting and managing relationships with external managers across a wide range of active mandates, as well as the team that focuses on investments in long-horizon themes. Prior to joining CPP Investment Board in 2009, he had several senior management and investment roles at Nordea Investment Management in Denmark, Sweden and the USA. He also served as the Chief Investment Officer for AP2 in Sweden. Poul obtained his undergraduate and Masters Degree in Economics and Management from Aarhus University in Denmark. He currently serves on the boards of Enstar Group, Viking Cruises and the Standards Board for Alternative Investments.
Aleks plays a leadership role in the External Portfolio Management team's manager research and selection process and heads up our London team. Prior to joining CPPIB in 2008, he was a senior member of Weyerhaeuser's pension plan team which oversaw hedge fund, fund of fund, private equity, real estate, and special situations investments. He has over 15 years of experience in finance and previously he had roles across equities and global markets in research, trading and portfolio management at Tremont Capital, TD Securities and RBC Capital in New York and Toronto. He began his career working for the Japanese Ministry of Education in Yokohama. Aleks holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Economics & History from Queen's University and the CFA designation.
Michael joined CPPIB in 2007 and is responsible for leading our private equity Secondaries and Co-Investments businesses in all global markets excluding Asia. Previously, Michael was a Senior Principal in our Private Equity Funds team where he managed a portfolio which included four of CPPIB's five largest private equity manager relationships. Prior to joining CPPIB, Michael was an investment banker with TD Securities in Toronto, head of strategy with the AXA Group in Tokyo, a management consultant with Bain & Company in Toronto, Singapore and Hong Kong and started his career in investment banking with Salomon Brothers in New York. Michael holds an MBA from Western Business School and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Calgary.
