Shawn Matthews
Shawn Matthews has served as the Chief Executive Officer of Cantor Fitzgerald & Co. since 2009. He joined Cantor Fitzgerald & Co. in 2005 and served in senior management roles prior to becoming Chief Executive Officer. He has played a significant role in the substantial growth of the company. Cantor Fitzgerald is a full service premier investment bank that has a significant presence in both the debt and equity markets. The firm is one of 22 primary dealers authorized to transact business with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, as well as a primary dealer in Ireland. Cantor Fitzgerald remains one of the top firms in hard to trade blocks of small and midcap stocks on a global basis. Mr. Matthews started his career at Wertheim Schroeder & Co in 1990, and since that point has spent the last 25 years in a senior management role having run both desks and departments at several firms. He has also been the managing member of a broker-dealer, West Side Capital, as well as the managing partner of Alchemist capital Management, a hedge fund. Mr. Matthews is on the board of several entities and is a former board member of the Securities Industry and Finance Markets Association.
Stephen Merkel
Stephen Merkel is Executive Managing Director, General Counsel and Secretary of Cantor Fitzgerald, L.P. He joined the firm in 1993 and oversees all legal, compliance, risk management, credit and internal audit functions for the firm. He is also Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of BGC Partners, Inc. Previously, he was the Director, Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of eSpeed. Prior to joining Cantor Fitzgerald, Mr. Merkel was Vice President and Assistant General Counsel at Goldman Sachs & Co., dedicated to the J. Aron Division. He began his career at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton and Garrison. Mr. Merkel graduated with a B.A. Magna Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania and received his law degree from the University of Michigan School of Law.
Steven Bisgay
As Chief Financial Officer of Cantor, Steven Bisgay is responsible for all financial operations, including accounting, finance, regulatory reporting, treasury and financial planning and analysis, as well as credit and market risk management. Mr. Bisgay is a seasoned veteran with over 25 years of experience in the securities and financial services industry. Prior to joining Cantor, Mr. Bisgay was the Chief Financial Officer of KCG Holdings. Before his appointment as Chief Financial Officer, he served as Knight Capital Group, Inc.’s Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer. Prior to these appointments, Mr. Bisgay served as Senior Manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. He has also served on the Board of Managers of Direct Edge Holdings LLC, until its merger with BATS Global Markets, Inc. Mr. Bisgay is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a BS in Accounting from Binghamton University and an MBA from Columbia University. He is also registered with FINRA and holds a Series 27 Financial Operations Principal License.
