Chief Executive Officer

Willem-Jan Hattink

Willem Hattink is the chief executive officer of GenSpring Family Offices, SunTrust’s multi-family office affiliate providing comprehensive wealth management advice and services to families of substantial wealth. Prior to joining GenSpring, Willem served as President/CEO, of SunTrust Investment Services, Inc. A 30-year SunTrust veteran, Willem began his career in the commercial banking training program and subsequently held increasingly responsible roles in international banking, corporate and investment banking, commercial real estate and wealth and investment management including serving as Private Wealth Management line of business executive for SunTrust’s Central and Mid-Atlantic banking groups. Willem earned an MBA from George Washington University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Higher Economic School in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

David Herritt

As managing director of GenSpring’s Northeast Region, David oversees all aspects of the client experience in our Greenwich, Connecticut and New York City family offices. David joined GenSpring Family Offices in 2006 as a Family Wealth Advisor and has held increasingly responsible positions throughout his tenure. He holds a firm-wide leadership role as Family Governance Director and has extensive experience in wealth transfer, financial and tax planning, next generation education and philanthropy. Prior to joining GenSpring, David worked for a number of trust companies including Bankers Trust, Deutsche Bank Trust and U. S. Trust. David spent much of his 20 plus year career in Trust and Estate Administration. He speaks and writes regularly for professional and client groups on a myriad of topics including family governance, family dynamics, next generation education and planning for closely held businesses. David is an active participant in GenSpring’s Closely Held Business Initiative, Next Generation Education and Governance Working Groups. David attended Brockport State University and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and Economics. In addition, he obtained his Juris Doctor from the Cumberland School of Law. David is also a graduate of the National Graduate Trust School program at Northwestern University.

Chris Walters

Chris Walters has over 25 years of wealth management experience and is focused on helping families sustain and enhance their wealth. As managing director of GenSpring’s Western Region, Chris oversees all aspects of the client experience across the Costa Mesa, Los Angeles and San Francisco family offices. Prior to joining GenSpring, Chris served as Executive Vice President of Rabobank, N.A. Throughout his 25 year wealth management career, he has held executive positions at national and international wealth management firms such as Atlantic Trust, Citi Bank, Mellon and Citizens Business Bank where he created CitizensTrust. A noted speaker on behavioral finance and family legacy planning, Chris has been quoted in Barron’s, Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg and Business Week. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from California State University, Long Beach.
