HTRG specializes in developing and managing diverse timberland portfolios on behalf of our clients. We offer a variety of investment products including individually managed accounts and commingled funds. Our investment services seek to provide investors with excellent capital preservation, portfolio diversification and attractive risk and return characteristics. Our clients have assets located in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, New Zealand and the United States. As of December 31, 2015, assets under management totaled approximately $11.5 billion.

Charles Amalfi

Charlie is responsible for the firms’ investments in Australia and New Zealand. Prior to this role, he managed the investment entity Hancock Victorian Plantations Pty Limited for over seven years. Before joining HNRGA, Charlie was with Burns Philp & Company Limited and in Taxation and Business Services with Grant Thornton. In addition to being a qualified Chartered Accountant he also holds a Masters of Taxation and Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Melbourne.

Katie AmRhein

Katie is responsible for account management and client relations for individually managed accounts and pooled accounts at the Hancock Timber Resource Group. In this role, she evaluates portfolio performance, acquisition and disposition opportunities, and develops and implements investment strategies. Prior to joining HTRG, Katie was Business Development Manager with Rayonier’s International Forest Products team where she was involved in evaluating and initiating development of new business in the major international timber-producing regions. Katie holds a B.S. in Forest Production from California State University, Arcata, and an MBA from Golden Gate University, San Francisco.

Mary Ellen Aronow

Mary Ellen is responsible for performing economic research to support the business and forestry investment decisions of the Hancock Timber Resource Group. Mary Ellen has experience in industrial forest management, timberland investment and forest products marketing, with special interest in global markets and international trade. Before joining HTRG, she was an analyst with Timber-Mart South where she wrote quarterly timber market newsletters and reported on structural changes within the timberland industry. Mary Ellen received a B.S. in Forest Management from the University of Montana, and her M.S. in Forest Economics from the University of Georgia.

Keith Balter

Keith is responsible for the market analysis supporting investment and operational planning and decision making for the Hancock Natural Resource Group (HNRG). Keith’s team maintains informational databases and is responsible for a series of analytical publications that address trends in global timber markets and the role of timberlands in institutional investment. Before joining HNRG in 2012, Keith was Senior Economist with Forest Capital Partners LLC, a company investing and managing commercial timberland for institutional investors, where he was responsible for market analysis, business development and investor support. Prior to his time at Forest Capital Partners, Keith was a principal at RISI, the premier provider of information services and analysis to the global forest products sector. Keith holds a MFS in Forest Economics from Yale, as well as a MBA from the University of Chicago.
