Koga Engineering & Construction, Inc. is engaged in the segment of the industry commonly referred to as municipal & utilities construction. The industry as a whole consists of General Contractors, Subcontractors, Material Suppliers and Equipment Dealers. Koga Engineering, although licensed to do both Engineering and Building construction, concentrates primarily on construction type projects involving excavation, utilities and roadwork. The Company also specializes in site preparation for General Building Contractors as a subcontractor. Work is obtained through competitive bidding and negotiating various types of contracts (fixed price, cost-plus, unit price, etc.). Customers include governmental agencies (Federal, State and County), private developers, municipalities and private industry.
Clay Y. Asato, President, has been with Koga Engineering since 1984. When Clay first started at Koga he worked out in the trenches in the field. Subsequently, he gained project and island management experiences, all of which have prepared him well for his present duties. Clay’s discipline and strong moral character helped to make the company’s adoption of W. Edwards Deming’s management principles so successful.
Glenn M. Nohara has been an integral part of Koga Engineering since 1984. Starting out with the company as General Superintendent, Glenn’s experience, knowledge and diligence led him to oversee all operations. Today Glenn serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors. Glenn’s strong belief in W. Edwards Deming’s philosophy of management has helped the company to easily adopt the tools and techniques of this highly effective management program.
Dennis Y. Okazaki has been in the construction industry since 1973 and has an excellent reputation in the sitework community. Dennis has bid work on all the major Hawaiian Islands as well as in Hong Kong, California and Washington State. His expertise includes mass grading, utilities, deep excavations, retention systems, dewatering, roads and bridges.
Lori Isara, Vice President Finance & Administration, has been in the finance and accounting field since 1981. She is responsible for administrative, accounting and financial functions. This includes personnel and company policies, regulatory compliance, financial management and strategic planning, budgeting and internal controls, insurance and banking relations and board and stockholder reports.
Brian “Jits” Kunioka, Vice President Estimating, has been in the construction industry since 1984. His responsibilities include bid selection, scheduling the department’s workload, and submittal of bid proposals. Jits’ experiences as a working foreman, project engineer and project manager have prepared him well for the chief estimator position. His knowledge, intelligence and attention to detail are critical and necessary traits for this position.
