Gene Bertcher was elected Executive Vice President in 2008. As of November 2, 2009, the Board of Directors of Transcontinental Realty Investors, Inc. appointed Gene Bertcher to the additional position of Chief Financial Officer of the Company. Gene is the current President and Chief Financial Officer of New Concept Energy, Inc., a position he has held since 2004. Gene has been a key member of the Pillar team and our affiliates, holding various executive level positions, since 1989.

Steven Shelley

Steven Shelley received his Bachelor of Business Administration from Baylor University and his Master of Business Administration from Texas Tech University. At Pillar, Steven is responsible for overseeing acquisitions and dispositions, managing the domestic oil and gas assets, and handling the loan portfolio of commercial, land, and non-agency residential properties. Specializing in creative finance solutions, Steven has also worked on numerous other special projects at Pillar, notably the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services EB-5 program, urban natural gas drilling in western Dallas County, and multiple U.S. Housing and Urban Development loans (221(d)(4), 223(f), and 223(a)(7)).

Nancy Showers

Nancy Showers has been a member of the Pillar team since 1990. Currently, she serves as a Vice President of the Capital Markets Division for Pillar Income Asset Management. Her primary responsibilities include originating FHA or conventional structured loans, handling the third party reports, fulfilling lender due diligence requirements, and closing and funding commercial loans on various property types. Nancy’s past experience includes the daily processing of 400 commercial mortgages and investor reporting for a large real estate holding company.

Joel Lenamon

As Director of Multi-Housing Acquisitions. Mr. Lenamon’s primary duties are to purchase Class A apartment properties financed with existing HUD loans, which includes sourcing the properties, negotiating attractive terms and managing the due diligence process to closing. Mr. Lenamon has a BBA- Accounting from the University of Texas Arlington and a MBA-Finance from TCU in Fort Worth. His background includes public accounting, banking and real estate investments. Mr. Lenamon was also Managing Director of Loan Production for a Pillar affiliate and previously held various positions with related NYSE companies
