John Charles Maddux serves as the President and CEO of Sunstone. Mr. Maddux previously served as the President and COO of MMPI, now known as EVOQ Properties. His background includes, among other types of real estate projects, direct “hands on” experience in all aspects of the acquisition, development, rehabilitation and management of multifamily residential developments and redevelopments. Projects he has had personal responsibility for the acquisition, development or rehabilitation and management range in size from less than $1.0 million to over $5 billion. In his career, he has participated as an attorney or as a principal in over $25 billion in real estate transactions.
Mr. Maddux has been the President of Sunstone Partners, LLC since 1996. Sunstone Partners buys, sells, renovates and operates industrial, residential and multifamily properties and acquires real property secured debt.Mr. Maddux served as a founder and shareholder of the law firm of Nevers, Palazzo, Maddux & Packard, PLC (now known as Nevers, Palazzo, Packard, Wildermuth & Wynner, PLC) from 1998 to 2005, and practiced law with the firm of O’Melveny & Myers LLP from 1986 to 1996, where he was a member of the real estate practice group and the vice chair of the real estate workout practice group.
Mr. Maddux earned his bachelor’s degree in business management-finance from Brigham Young University’s Marriott School of Management and his J.D. from Brigham Young University’s J. Reuben Clark Law School. He is also a member of the National Multi-Housing Council and the Urban Land Institute. He is married and has three sons.
John B. Hansen serves as the Chief Operating Officer and CFO of Sunstone. Mr. Hansen was a founder and Managing Partner of Glenwood Financial Group Inc., (“Glenwood”). He also served as President and CEO of Glenwood Properties, Inc. Glenwood was incorporated in 1987 and acquired and developed 61 real estate projects from 1987 through2012. As the President of Glenwood Properties, he had operational responsibility for all of the company's properties and the company’s capital markets activities.
Prior to the founding of Glenwood, Mr. Hansen practiced law for 3 years, praciticing primarily securities and real estate law. Mr. Hansen was a founding shareholder and director of Tomato Bank, N.A., a national banking association, where he served as Chairman of the Audit Committee.
From 1996 to 2006 Mr. Hansen was a founding member and officer of Greenwood Interests LLC, an operator of childcare franchises, which grew to be the second largest provider of childcare in southern California.
Mr. Hansen received a B.A. in literature from Brigham Young University and a J.D. from the University of Utah College of Law. He also served on the Verdugo Hospital Foundation Board of Directors and the Youth House Community Center Board of Directors. He is married and has four children.
Elizabeth Lee Fujino serves as a Vice President of Sunstone. She previously served as an Associate with Suburban Land Reserve, a land investment and development company. Mrs. Fujino has experience in various types of real estate assets including master planned communities, condominium conversions, industrial parks, and multifamily. During her 10 years of real estate experience, she has worked on projects in various development stages ranging from entitlement, acquisition, management and disposition.
Mrs. Fujino received a B.A. in marketing and advertising from Brigham Young University and an MBA from Brigham Young University’s Marriott School of Management. She is also a member of the Urban Land Institute.
Nabor Leon serves as a Construction Manager of Sunstone. Mr. Leon has over 25 years of experience in the construction industry. He has owned and operated his own contracting business in Chicago and has rehabilitated hundreds of bank owned properties. He has in-depth experience in managing construction from conception to completion which include monitoring budgets and construction activities, supervising subcontractors, managing supply chain, ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies, enforcing safety policies and developing and executing construction schedules.
