Tesseract Capital Group (TCG) is an opportunistic commercial real estate investment company headquartered in San Francisco, CA. Its core business focuses on the acquisition, redevelopment, and management of multifamily apartment assets throughout California. Since 2005, the principals of TCG have successfully completed 70 transactions and hold ownership interests in over 1,000 multifamily units nationwide. The team comes from an amalgamation of complimentary real estate backgrounds, including: construction, property management, brokerage, lending, securities, and private equity.

Justin Arenberg

Justin Arenberg serves as the VP of Development and Construction at TCG, where he manages all phases of construction project management including planning/design, permitting, procurement/contracting, execution, monitoring/controlling, and closeout phases of various projects in TCG’s portfolio. Mr. Arenberg joined TCG after relocating from Cape May, New Jersey, where he managed the construction portfolio for Cape Resorts Group, a privately held hospitality firm. As an owner/operator and a licensed General Contractor, he developed 16 new homes in Cape May County, New Jersey. Through responsible procurement of land, implementation of modular construction technology, and use of green building practices, Mr. Arenberg delivered superior residential living solutions. Mr. Arenberg is a 6-year veteran, Horizontal Construction Engineer in the U.S. Army Reserves. Mr. Arenberg is a 2005 graduate of Temple University, where he earned a B.A. in Marketing & Public Relations.

Benjamin Jiang

Benjamin Jiang is a co-founder and CEO of TCG. Mr. Jiang oversees the firm’s overall strategic direction and is primarily responsible for developing and executing the firm’s investment strategies. Mr. Jiang specializes in investment sourcing and capital raising, as well as managing key strategic partnerships. Mr. Jiang has a principle investment track record dating back to 2005 along with experience in many key aspects of commercial real estate investing including brokerage, financing, underwriting, investment banking, and private equity. Prior to joining TCG, Mr. Jiang spent his career with the real estate investment banking group at Bank of America, the commercial real estate lending division of Prudential, and the multifamily acquisitions team at Bridge Partners. In aggregate, Mr. Jiang has facilitated the purchase and sale of over 6,000 multifamily units across the nation and $2B in loan originations. Mr. Jiang received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of California, Berkeley. He is also a licensed real estate broker in the state of California and has served as an expert witness opining on a major commercial real estate dispute in the San Francisco Bay Area.

William Chu

William Chu is a co-founder and Partner of TCG. Mr. Chu oversees the firm’s financial matters on a corporate level and directs executive project management at the asset level. Mr. Chu also plays a critical role in the acquisitions team assisting with sourcing, underwriting, and closing. Mr. Chu began his career in commercial real estate prior to the formation of TCG and directly oversaw many of TCG’s founding properties. Prior to TCG, Mr. Chu worked with FrontPoint Security, where he helped market, structure, and syndicate the company’s $110 million Secured Credit Facility. Prior to his tenure at FrontPoint Security, Mr. Chu worked as a Senior Investment Banking Associate at Brush & Associates, where he facilitated and directed over $300 million in debt and equity transactions. Mr. Chu received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of California, Berkeley and is a CFA Charterholder with extensive experience investment banking, asset management, and multifamily private equity.

Derek Flores

Derek Flores is the President of Development and Construction at TCG, where he oversees the development and growth of TCG’s vertically integrated construction platform, TCG Construction (TCGC). Mr. Flores is a licensed general contractor in the State of California and manages the execution of TCGs value-add business strategy. Mr. Flores manages all phases of construction and development including planning/design, permitting/entitlement, procurement/contracting, execution, monitoring/controlling, and closeout phases of the projects in TCG’s portfolio. Prior to joining TCG, Mr. Flores was a Project and Design Engineer at Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company. There, he led a cross-functional team through all phases of conceptualization, design, and production of mechanical systems. Mr. Flores earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley and a Master of Science in Product Development Engineering from the University of Southern California.
